Huiji Braised Pork

Ingredients:

  • Pork Belly – 700g (cut into 2 big pieces)
  • Dark Soya Sauce – 2 tbsp
  • Oyster Sauce – 1 tbsp
  • Sesame Oil – ½ tbsp
  • Ground Pepper – ¼ tbsp
  • Hua Tiao Wine – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Garlic – 8 cloves (washed, skinned, smashed)
  • Star Anise – 1 pc
  • Cinnamon Stick – 1 stalk
  • Galangal (Blue Ginger) – 15g (Washed, smashed)
  • Water – 650g
  • Rock Sugar – ½ piece
  • Huiji Health Tonic – 1 – 2 cups (Huiji measuring cup)
 

Methods:

  1. Wash pork belly well, poke some holes on it with a fork, drain well from water, mixed well with dark soy sauce,oyster sauce, sesame oil, ground pepper, hua tiao wine and salt, marinate for 1 hour
  2. Heat up 2 tbsp oil, saute garlic, star anise, cinnamon and galangal till aromatic, then pan fry pork belly till fragrant
  3. Add water, rock sugar and bring to a boil, cover, lower to small flame, simmer till pork turns soft and tender
  4. Mixed well with 1 – 2 cups of Huiji Health Tonic, serve
